Forehead lift, Brow rejuvenation, Eyebrow lift, Frontal lift, Browplasty, Forehead rejuvenation
It is a known fact that with age and sun exposure our skin loses elasticity, causing the brow to droop. Gravity exerts a constant force on the entire body including the brow. As we age, the constant stress over the years has taken a toll on our beauty by placing deep wrinkles on the forehead and brow comes down, the wrinkles and the frown lines tend to appear on the eye area, giving somewhat an angry look to the face. Sometimes, it results in a somewhat sad expression.

There are various types of technique/method that your surgeon will suggest if you want to undergo the procedure.
1. Coronal Brow Lift
This is the oldest used brow lift technique. The coronal lift is also referred to as an open brow lift. The procedure involves a single incision made from ear to ear that is placed across the forehead.
Coronal lifts are opted for by people who have smaller foreheads and want to lift their hairline. However, it is an extensive one. Therefore, there are fewer invasive techniques available now.
2. Trichophytic Brow Lift
Trichophytic Brow Lift is commonly used for patients with higher hairlines. The procedure removes a portion of forehead skin (rather than raising the hairline) to elevate the eyebrows. Here, the incision is made just behind the hairline. The incision is performed so that hair will grow right through it, concealing the area.
3. Endoscopic Brow Lift
This is the most popular type of brow lift procedure. This is the choice for most surgeons as it only requires small, less invasive incisions.
In the endoscopic, a small endoscope is used. The endoscope is often attached to a camera so that the surgeon can get a direct view of the tissue of the forehead and dissect it. The camera allows the surgeon to safely identify any nerves close to the eyebrows and protect them during the surgery.
The incisions made here are minimal. In the endoscopic procedure, the pain is less, and recovery is shorter and there is less chance of any numbness on the scalp.
4. Temporal Brow Lift
A lateral brow lift is also termed as a temporal brow lift is a less extensive brow lift technique. The procedure addresses the outer one-third portion of the eyebrows rather than the full brow area.
The lateral brow is the portion that starts sagging first as we age creating heaviness to the upper eyelid. The temporal brow lift with combination of an upper blepharoplasty will help in reversing the age, providing a more youthful appearance. Compared to other brow lift types, the temporal lift has less effect, however, it has less risk and shorter healing times.
5. Trans-blepharoplasty Brow Lift
A modification of the temporal brow lift, the trans-blepharoplasty brow lift, also effectively addresses the lateral brow. The brow is raised through a standard upper Blepharoplasty eyelid incision in the upper eyelid crease. The forehead is released from below through this approach. The suture is done through a short ½ inch incision behind the upper hairline. The healing takes less time in the minimally invasive technique.
5. Non-Surgical Brow Lift Using Neurotoxin (Botox, Dysport)
In this procedure, the lateral brows can also be raised slightly using neurotoxin injection techniques. The muscles that are responsible to pull the brow down are weakened to get an elevation. To achieve the lift, the orbicularis oculi muscles (that create crow’s feet) and the procures and corrugator muscles (that create the 11’s between the eyebrows) are injected. However, the effect is very slight and temporary. This technique is best for younger patients with only early eyebrow descent.
In any form of surgery, the first step is to have a one-on-one consultation with the surgeon. The surgeon will help in determining the facial structure and plan the surgery accordingly, taking in consideration the brow position and wrinkles and the expected goals. The photographs will be clicked before the surgery and after it to review the success of the surgery.
Be prepared to let go of any smoking habits prior to the surgery. You have to stop certain medications like a blood thinner. Get your eye examination done.
Step 1 – Anesthesia
Like any surgery, the anesthesia will be administered for your comfort. Your surgeon will suggest either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia.
Step 2 – The incision
The procedure can be performed in different ways. The endoscopic and coronal method is used depending on the amount of correction needed.
Endoscopic incision:
In some cases, the endoscopic method is used. In the endoscopic method, a thin tube with a camera on the end and special instruments are placed through small incisions made within the hairline. This allows the tissue and muscle beneath the skin to be adjusted. The method will correct the source of visible creases and furrows in the forehead.
Coronal incision:
Some surgeons opt for the coronal incision to perform Browlift surgery. The incision made in the coronal procedure is created from ear to ear across the top of the head within the hair-bearing skin.
The forehead skin is then lifted and any muscle adjustment can be done under direct visualization. The scar in coronal brow lift is well concealed within the hair.
For women with very high foreheads, an incision just at the anterior hairline may be recommended. By applying this method, the brow can be lifted without altering the height of the front hairline.
Step 3 – Closing the incisions
The incisions are closed with absorbable sutures and sometimes skin adhesives are also used. Your surgeon will typically decide on the type of sutures needed.
Step 4 – See the results
One can see the result immediately and within a few weeks after the swelling and bruising subsides, changes will be more visible
After conducting the endoscopic brow lifts and trichophytic as well, the swelling and bruising technically subsides after 15days. The surgeon will advise you to take proper rest after the surgery. Medications will be provided to lessen the swelling and the bruising. In some cases, drainage tubes are inserted into the incisions to prevent fluid accumulation. The drainage tubes will be removed a few days after the surgery.
You can do table work in a day or two, but emotionally might not ready face-to-face discussion with people till swelling and bruise go off. One can return to their active lifestyle in 2 weeks.
Recovery times for temporal and trans-bleph brow lifts are typically shorter.

Ans. This is the medical term for a drooping eyebrow. This can cause significant overhang of upper eyelid skin over the lashes and interfere with the visual function or appear unsightly. It usually occurs on both sides, but can be asymmetrical, appearing only on one side.
Ans. There is no lower age limit for this procedure. Some patients have low brows at an early age, a feature that is often hereditary.
Ans. You can, and often patients decide to have a Blepharoplasty at the same time if they have excess upper eyelid skin as well. Doing multiple procedures on the same day does not lengthen the recovery time, and will allow the patient to accomplish many goals with one surgery.
Ans. Some patients with low brows and excess eyelid skin can have trouble seeing to the sides because their vision is blocked by sagging skin. In these cases, elevating the brows (along with a Blepharoplasty) will improve vision by relieving this obstruction.
Ans. Botox can be used to paralyze the muscles that keep the brows low, allowing them to rise. This effect is mild, though – a surgical brow lift is much more effective at raising the brows. Also, the effects of Botox last only a few months, whereas the effects of brow lift surgery are generally permanent.
Ans. Brow lift procedures do not lead to severe pain, but you will have mild soreness and tightness of your forehead. These symptoms are easily controlled with medications that we will prescribe for you.
Ans. The benefits of brow lifts will last indefinitely, and revision surgery is quite rare. Occasionally, patients will want their brows raised even higher, which can be accomplished by revision surgery.
Ans. It is most commonly performed in the 40–60 age range to minimize the visible effects of aging. People with inherited conditions such as a low, heavy brow or furrow lines above the nose, can achieve a more alert and refreshed look with this procedure.
Ans. Brow lifts and Forehead lifts are performed under general anesthesia. The incision is usually made well behind the hairline so that the scar will not be visible. A brow lift can restore a more youthful look to the area above and around your eyes. The muscles and tissues that cause furrowing or drooping are removed or altered to raise the eyebrows, smooth the forehead and reduce frown lines and crow’s feet.
Ans. Fortunately, significant complications from this procedure are infrequent. Every year, many people undergo successful surgery, experience no major problems, and are delighted with the results. Anyone considering surgery, however, should be aware of both the benefits and the risks. Your surgeon will discuss these with you during your consultation.
Ans. Once your eyebrow lift surgery is complete, the scalp incisions will be closed with stitches or clips and the area will be washed. Gauze and an elastic bandage may also be applied. The next step after eyebrow lift surgery is simply to leave the skin to heal. The healing process for eyebrow lift surgery is very rapid, with most of our patients able to return to work within a week to 10 days. You should be able to shower and shampoo your hair within five days after surgery, or soon as your bandage is removed.
